Principal's Message

Raider Family,

It is hard to believe that it has been over a year since I stepped foot on this campus as the Principal of Northeast Early College High School (ECHS). As a proud product of the Austin Independent School District, returning home was a reward for me (I previously served in roles as Associate Principal at Del Valle High School, Assistant Principal at Lehman High School and Del Valle Middle School, math teacher at Paredes Middle School and the Alternative Learning Center and a graduate from Johnston High School).

As I reflect on my time here at Northeast ECHS, I beam with pride and joy at the traditions we have continued and the new ones we have started, the accomplishments of our students and staff, and the bright future ahead for us. Last school year, our athletics program swept the board with an overwhelming presence in the playoffs - Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Boys Cross Country, Boys Basketball, and Football, and Boys and Girls Track. This speaks to the talent and commitment of our Athletic Coordinator, Coaches, Trainers, and Athletes.

We are thankful for community and business partners such as Austin FC and 4ATX Foundation for funding and building a soccer mini-pitch for our community. Here at Northeast Early College High School, we stress the importance of being a “student” athlete - meaning student first. Our scholars have excelled academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally in addition to their athletic accomplishments. Northeast Thespians held their first musical in ten years, “All Shook Up”. Our Austin ISD family and community showed up and showed out to support the students and The Arts.

Last fall, our district passed a historic equity bond which will significantly impact the Northeast community. Thank you to all who made this possible for our students. We are in the planning stages with our Campus Architectural Team (CAT) to envision a better Northeast for our families. Dr. General Garwood Marshall Middle School is now a part of our Northeast vertical team and we were elated to welcome International High School to Raider Nation.

Our teachers and staff are the glue that holds this all together and I am always eager to celebrate them through teacher leadership pathways and special recognitions such as Teacher and Staff Member of the Month. Lastly, I am eternally grateful for our parents and community for the support, involvement, and commitment to the home team.

The best is truly yet to come. Happy Homecoming, Raider Family!

Sincerely,

Nathan Neal, Principal
